Class99 Locomotive

The bimodal Co'Co' locomotive for the UK

The Class 99 locomotive is based on the proven EURODUAL locomotive concept and has a dual drive. The versatile Co’Co’ locomotive therefore allows for purely electric as well as combined diesel-electric operation, which means it can be used on the entire rail network. This is a new generation of locomotives for the UK that offers railway operators numerous economic and ecological advantages while also continuing to drive the shift of traffic from roads to rails.

The locomotives are adapted to the British clearance gauge and are therefore narrower and lower than their continental EURODUAL siblings. Nevertheless, just like their European counterparts, they can reach speeds of 120 km/h and, at 500 kN, also offer the greatest tractive effort of any European mainline locomotive.

At InnoTrans, one of the 30 locomotives being built for Beacon Rail in Britain will be presented. After the trade fair, the vehicle will be operated by GB Railfreight.
